Space Time Concerto Competition
In 2012, I had the privilege of working as the Project Manager for the International Space Time Concerto Competition, a groundbreaking event that explored the intersection of music, technology, and global collaboration. As the International Project Manager for the networked performance, I was deeply involved in the integration of telematic performance technologies, showcasing innovations in musical communication years ahead of their widespread adoption during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Space Time Concerto Competition was a creative initiative developed by the University of Newcastle in collaboration with prestigious institutions such as the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore, Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, Waikato University in New Zealand, and Ars Electronica / Bruckner University in Austria. Under the artistic direction of Professor Richard Vella, the event was a celebration of musical innovation, blending traditional forms with cutting-edge technology.
The competition culminated in two major concert events held at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music on November 30th and the University of Newcastle’s Harold Lobb Concert Hall on December 2nd. The first concert featured an international live performance of networked music, demonstrating the future possibilities of the concerto form through global communication and technological creativity. The second concert combined historical and innovative musical approaches, challenging traditional ideas by merging the past with the future.
As a performer on the Friday night, I experienced firsthand the exhilarating blend of classical and contemporary elements that defined the competition. The event was a testament to the power of collaboration and the endless possibilities of music in the digital age, marking a significant moment in my career and the broader field of music technology.
